Vellah Kedogo Kigwiru, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, is currently a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Technical University of Munich’s (TUM) School of Governance and a Guest Researcher, Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, Munich Germany. Previously she worked as a legal analyst at the Competition Authority of Kenya. She is also a contributing editor at AfronomicsLaw, an author at Competition Policy International blog and a researcher at the UNCTAD Research Partnership Platform on competition policy. Kigwiru’s research interests focus on competition, technology, trade, international economic law and legal research. Additionally, she focuses on academic blogging, blogging on various subjects. She has won various awards and grants including the US Anti-Monopoly Fund of which she is using to research the conduct of US Big Tech companies and the dominant tech companies in the African market. She has published with the Manchester Journal of International Economic Law an article titled ‘The Cooperation on Competition Policy under the African Continental Free Trade Area’. Together with Prof Tim Büthe, published an article in the African Journal of International Economic Law on ‘The Spread of Competition Law and Policy in Africa: A Research Agenda’. She has book chapters (with Cambridge University Press) and journal articles forthcoming, focusing on topics related to competition and technology law in Africa. Moreover, she consults widely on policy formulation and institutional building as they relate to developing countries. As a result of her expertise, Ms. Kigwiru has presented her papers in various international conferences and been invited to various forums as a panellist.
